When Poker Rakeback Isn't Truely A Percentage Of Your Rake BackSubmitted by admin@nationsubmit.com Mon, 6 Jul 2009
For a few years now, many poker affiliates have been offering customers rakeback as an incentive to register with poker sites through their links. The way that this functions, is the poker affiliate gets paid a percentage of the profit that their referred customer generates for the poker site, then gives a percentage of this back to the player.
For example, Opoker on the boss network pay affiliates 50% of the rake that they recieve from people sent to the site by the said affiliate. The affiliate then offers players 30% of their rake back if they register through him, and keeps the leftover 20% for himself. So far so good. The poker site recieves 50% of the revenue from a customer that they wouldn't otherwise have recieved, the player recieves 30% of the rake he pays to the poker site back for free, and the affiliate recieves 20% of the revenue paid by the player for his time and investment in setting up and operating a website and advertising etc. The general theory behind rakeback is profitable for everybody involved. The is, the rakeback percentages advertised aren't always what they seem. Some sites rakeback is absolutely transparant. They offer you 30% rakeback, you rake $100 and you recieve $30 back, exactly as you're supposed to. Other sites aren't so up front with their percentages though. (paragraph) For example, fulltilt poker allow their affiliates to offer players 27% rakeback. Obviously, using this figure you'd think that if you raked $100 you'd recieve $27 rakeback. This isn't actually the case though. Fulltilt poker deduct absolutely everything possible from the money that they pay to their affiliates. These deductions are then removed from the total given to the customer. If the player is given a bonus from fulltilt poker, the amount of the bonus is deducted from the players rakeback. If the player uses fulltilt points to purchase an item from fulltilts shop, the price of the item is deducted from the players rakeback. Even if the customer plays in a tournament which guarantees to pay out $5000 in prize money, if the tournament fees that the poker site get from the participating players only total $3000, the remaining $2000 dollars in payout money that the site hasn't yet earned is jointly taken from the participating players rakeback. The fact is, the customer does not get 27% of the rake they pay back. Fulltilt is not the only poker site that works like this though. lots of poker sites have hidden deductions that they don't openly advertise. What i recommend to poker players looking for rakeback is to only deposit at poker sites who pay you an honest percentage of what you rake back, to save disappointment when the time comes to recieve your monthly rakeback payment. There are loads of online poker sites who provide an honest percentage of rakeback, as well as brilliant software and customer support, and any knowledgable poker affiliate will be able to tell you if a poker site takes away fees from its rakeback, and also help you to discover the best site for you to play on.
