Summer is fast approaching and most of us are looking forward to the long summer evenings and garden parties. Cleaning out the barbi, cutting the lawn and tidying up the flower beds are part of preparation for a great summer party.

When planning a garden party there is plenty you can do to make it a party to remember. Food is one important component to a successful party, the other is the entertainment. When choosing food you need to make sure you have everyone has something that they like and will eat. Having plenty of options you will sure to please everyone.

Garden games can be a real hit while the food is cooking and the adults are enjoying some wine. It will keep the kids entertained and some of the adults will become child like again which is always an amusing sight. But hey, it’s all in the name of fun.
There are many garden games on the market which are great fun for all the family. The game Limbo is a great game but very competitive. To make this game fair you need to put people into height categories so you are only playing against people of similar build. You can buy this game or make it as it just two stands with a pole across the top. The idea of the game is to go under the pole without bending forward, so head back, chest out and knees bent! As each member goes under the pole it then gets lowered making it trickier until you have one person left – the winner!

Also on the market now are giant games, giant chess, giant connect 4, giant pick up sticks, giant draughts and many more. One of my favourite giant games became a great hit at party I threw last year, is the giant version of the popular 'Jenga' game. Also known as Hi-towers, the object of the game is to build the tower as high as you can but if you are the one to make it topple you lose the game. You start with a full tower of blocks and then each person takes time in removing any block below the top layer and then adds it to the top. If you found the original game a bit fiddly because you have big fingers this version is for you.

Another game that had the party in fits of giggles was the game Get Knotted. A more common name for the game is ‘twister’. With the giant game you get a much larger mat but the principle is the same. One person is allocated to spin the pointer and where it lands the person first has to do what is says. It could be left hand on green or right foot on blue. You all take turns and before long you are all entangled and struggling to keep the balance.

So get planning now and make sure you and your family make the most of this coming summer. There are plenty of places online where you can find ideas and buy garden games at very reasonable prices.
