Kansas to Get New CasinosSubmitted by David Salt Fri, 23 Oct 2009
Plans are being debated by city officials, which could see the US state of Kansas soon becoming home to a new branch of casinos. The news, which has just emerged, is surprising because Kansas, set in the deep south of America and well within the country's traditionally religious ‘bible belt', is supposedly against legalised gambling and entertainment of this sort. However, the casino plan does look likely to go ahead, with or without the opposition that it is likely to face from traditionalists in the largely conservative state.
The plan will mean that the state of Kansas will become the legal owner of the casinos, rather than just playing host to them. The exact number of casinos is not yet known, but they are reported to be likely to open inn Dodge City. Possibly Kansas officials feel that this city, a former ‘cowboy town', is the best place for them, and that there will be less opposition from residents if they are placed here. The surprising plan has come to light largely because Kansas is struggling financially, and it is hoped and expected that the casino industry will bring large amounts of money into Dodge City, and indeed the rest of the state. This is highly likely, since the development, construction and eventual running of the casinos will mean a large amount of jobs are created. The benefits for tourism are also expected to be great, as people will no longer have to travel as far as Las Vegas in the west or Atlantic City in the east to find a range of casinos. The casinos, which are expected to open in December this year, will also bring in a large amount of revenue directly to the state. Kansas has commissioned the casino plan largely because it will receive fifty million dollars from the licensing fees, which are needed for casinos to be run. About the Author
Building casinos in cities can have its economic benefits such as employment. Online casinos have also been profitable for many companies too.
