3 Great Reasons to take Music and Dance Classes

Submitted by James Franczek
Thu, 27 May 2010

If you are trying to decide to put your child in either music lessons or dance classes why not consider both. Music by itself is good for children whether it's piano, guitar, violin, vocal, or even drum lessons. when you add dance, ballet, jazz, hip hop, or even a pre-school program, the entire experience is enhanced. Here are 3 reasons why.

1) Rhythm - music and dance are both centered heavily around rhythm. There is constant counting whether you're playing or dancing to the beat. The students also count at different speeds which is very good for developing spacial reasoning.
2) Music is made for dancing and vice versa. All cultures have their own unique styles of music and dance but the one thing they have in common is that musicians play for the dancers and the dancers play for the musicians.
3) Stress relief - Music and dance are both widely know to reduce stress and help provide joy into anyone's day. I'm sure you have heard the expression "music soothes the savage beast"? Dancing can do the same. Dance is a form of exercise which we all know reduces stress and can help us maintain a healthy balance in our lives.

In conclusion, music and dance are both great for the mind, the body, and the soul. To have music without dance or dance without music would be like having peanut butter without jelly, Yin without Yang, Ben without Jerry. well, I'm sure you get the point.
