The Elvis 68 Comeback Special was an NBC network television concert event that was sponsored by Singer Sewing Machine Company on December 3, 1968. The correct name of the show at the time was the 1968 United States Television Special and the soundtrack that was released was named the NBC-TV Special.

The common name for this event is the Elvis 68 Comeback Special due to the events of Elvis's career at the time. Since returning from his tour of duty in the Army, his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, had directed Elvis's career away from music and into the movie business. This concert was to reestablish Elvis as a top performing musician again.

During this concert Elvis exhibited his musical talents. One of the things that stand out was a recording of a rehearsal for the concert and the way he played his acoustical guitar for the crowd. This performance has now been dubbed as the first and start of the Unplugged style of concerts and playing that other musicians have followed.

Elvis performed this concert in an all black leather outfit. This became an iconic symbol for him in the following years. This was the first live performance for the King since March 25, 1961 in Hawaii and he was a little nervous. The show ended with performing "If I Can Dream". This was a very special song for Elvis and it showed in his performance.

This was the event that put Elvis back on top of the charts. After this special he started to do tours including shows in Las Vegas. In 1969 his "Suspicious Minds" went to number one on the 100 top billboard charts. The comeback of Elvis all started with the Elvis 68 Comeback Special, which left him on the throne as King of Rock n Roll for all time.
