The Elvis Presley "If i can dream" song was sung with such intensity and spirit that it almost sounded like Southern Gospel music. This song was written by Walter Earl Brown and was recorded by Elvis 2 months after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. In this song are direct quotations from Martin Luther King Jr's speeches. This song rang a true tone in the hearts of many Americans.

This song was first released to the public as the finale of the 68 Comeback Special. This special not only ended with this song but reestablished Elvis as a great performer and put him back on top of the throne as King of Rock n Roll. His black leather suit became an icon for his resurgence that kept him on top of the charts for years to follow. This song was released as a recording in November of 1968 as a single. The reverse side had "Edge of Reality" on it. This song rose to #12 on the Billboards top 100 list and stayed there for 13 consecutive weeks. In that time over one million copies were sold.

This song was very special to Elvis and change the way he thought about things. After hearing it for the first time it was recorded that Elvis said "I'm never going to sing another song I don't believe in". He went on to say "I'm never going to make another movie I don't believe in".

There have been many singers and performers that have tried to sing this song since the King's death but none have achieved the spirit and feeling Elvis put into this song. The Elvis Presley "If I Can Dream" song will go down in history as one of the best that ever was or will be.
