Fifty Years Of Motown Tracks But Which Would You Karaoke?

Submitted by Marcus Smythe

Motown records is a legendary name in itself without even mentioning the artists that have recorded under the label. Motown has reached its 50 year anniversary this year and can claim some of the best original and quality songs from within those 50 years but more than this at a time when the colour of your skin was more important than music Motown gave a credible platform for African American talents that would have remained unheard if it wasn’t for Berry Gordy.

On January 12th 1959 with an $800 loan from his family Berry started Motown Records but more than that he raised the profile of African Americans and made those talented acts a global sensation. Michael Jacksons first encounters with the music industry would have been at Motown along with The Jackson 5 who released 'ABC' a song that is known the world over. Other acts include Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross & The Supremes.

The tracks themselves are too numerous to generalise so here are the top ten Motown Karaoke tracks that would get any club singing and dancing along.

1. Stop In The Name Of Love – The Supremes
2. Dancing In The Street – Martha and The Vandellas
3. Get Ready – Temptations
4. ABC – The Jacksons
5. My Guy – Mary Wells
6. Ain’t no Mountain High Enough – Diana Ross
7. Reach Out, I’ll Be There – Four Tops
8. What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted – Jimmy Ruffin
9. All Night Long – Lionel Richie
10. Super Freak – Rick James
