Guide to Popular Instruments - The Easiest Instruments to Learn

There really isn't such a thing as an easy instrument to learn if you're not interested in learning one. The easiest thing to learn how to play is going to be the one you want to play the most because you'll be motivated to practice. That said, this list covers a guide to popular instruments that are easier than others.

The percussion section has a lot of choices for someone looking for something simpler. The big issue here is that you really have to be able to keep the beat easily, but that's really true with everything in music. There are a lot of options here to choose from, and most often people start with one and then move around and consider others.

You could play the drums, which is actually a bit more complicated than most other options here because you'll have multiple drums to play.

The bongo drum is made up of two sections which are connected and one side is larger than the other, you hold these between your knees and play them.

The tambourine, which is a hand held shallow drum that you play in various ways. This is a fun one to play for an audience.

The recorder, or the kazoo, are simple to learn quickly. People often learn them in elementary school.

A harmonica is similar to the two options above in that you can learn it quickly and it's another instrument that you blow into, but unlike the two above where you blow into them and hold them vertically, with a harmonica you move the instrument side to side as you play.

The ukulele is much easier to learn than the guitar because it only has four strings. It's also much smaller than the guitar. It's really fun though, and while people will laugh when they see you with such a tiny instrument, they will be very impressed when you play your first song.

Once you decide to learn how to play the ukulele it's pretty easy to get started! You can pick up the pace by learning songs you already know to get yourself motivated and learn to play the ukulele.
