The history of Elvis Presley is a long and rich story that most of us know. It all started on a cold January morning in 1935. It took 18 years before he started to perform. What made Elvis distinctive right from the beginning was the way he moved and he had the sounds like most of the popular blues singers but was from a caucasian family.

He soon became famous for his swiveling hips. This was so controversial that when he would perform on television, only the upper half of his torso would be shown to the television viewers. This also made many young ladies swoon.

Elvis was a performer that had little to no bounds to what he could do. His music covered all the popular styles from Rock n Roll to blues, country and even gospel. His popularity grew to the point in the early 60's that he also made 31 movies. Each film had him singing in them and they were all financially successful.

In 1968 he returned to live musical performances and in 1973 he was the first performer to have a live global concert. This was shot in Hawaii and is said to have reached over one billion viewers.

Unfortunately the years of success and taken its toll on the King and he turned to drugs as an escape. After two overdoses, one which left him in a coma for three days, Elvis's addiction to prescription medication took his life on August 16, 1977 at the age of 42.

The music Elvis recorded is still a best seller and for the foreseeable future will always be. For most of us the history of Elvis is set with him as the King.
