Music Creation - Two ways to create synth sounds yourselfSubmitted by dancemidisamples Mon, 7 Feb 2011
There are two ways to produce synth sounds. The first is to use hardware, and an actual synthesizer unit. Also known as a keyboard. (Laypersons see keyboards as an electric piano. Modern keyboards are known to competent musicians as synthesizers.) The other method is to use computer software to process your sound. Software is easier to use. All of the settings are laid out for you on the computer screen. There are also new updates constantly made available online known as soft synth patches. Soft synth patches make it even easier to create popular synth sounds. They save time and painstaking modification of endless tonal qualities.
A modern, high quality synthesizer unit can produce the same sounds that are achieved with computer software. However, using a professional, quality synthesizer is extremely technical. Advanced levels of knowledge and experience can be required to modify the finer points of settings. They also have much smaller display screens, which must be continually searched through to find the correct display to modify the desired quality. This makes producing with a hardware synthesizer very difficult. The professional, quality units are also very expensive. Some may even cost more than a top of the line computer or laptop. Computers offer many more advantages to making synth sounds. It is much quicker and easier to stay up to date on cutting edge synth sounds by downloading soft synth patches. Many synthesizers have the same capability, but they often only offer updates that are from the manufacturer, while a computer has greater compatibility with patches that may be free for anyone to use on a laptop. The greatest advantage of using software to create your new synth sounds is the speed and ease of use that is offered. Everything from conception to final processing of a music track can take place right on a single laptop. Less technical ability is required to use popular programs to produce music. All of the extremely complicated sound- wave plotting has already been done. Synthesizers are used most often to provide a physical keyboard to plug into a computer, and quickly chart notes.
