Music Social Networks: The Way To ShareSubmitted by urlreader Thu, 16 Oct 2008
How often do you stop and think about where you get all the music you listen to, or where you heard about the band you're currently grooving on? For many, music comes in through various sources, and there is no one main source. Of course, for people on a music social networking site, it's a litle easier to pinpoint some of where they are getting their input. The social music networks that exist online are a multi-dimensional product that serves musicians and their listeners equally well.
To begin with, a music social network provides a place for musical acts to put together a comprehensive profiles on a site that will draw music fans in, and doens't depend on a looser linking system or specific search engine queries. Musicians create a profile that allows them a bio as well as hosts pictures and album imagery. They can select tracks to put on the site or they can upload entire albums. With technology that allows listeners on the site to hear the music but not to walk away with it is also an important feature. Music sales are certainly a popular thing amongst musicians, and many music social networks online allow bands to have more control over how their music leaves- some to only have albums sold as whole, while others offer up individual songs for sale. The benefits of selling music in a venue where the listener can preview what they are getting is pretty obvious. It also opens up sales to people who collect songs, not albums. If album sales are going, being able to sell your hit song solo is a pretty good deal when you're on the way up. The networking benefits are also pretty huge. Think about it- word of mouth is the most viral way to see your music's popularity spread. With these online music social networks, there is a lot more going on than just word-of-mouth. When users can get other matches recommended to them based on their likes and dislikes, chances are pretty good that they will like at least some of what they find. Many people browse through user profiles of others who have similar interests to find new music groups that they haven't heard yet. Fans may also check out who a band is listening to, which is where all that band-to-band networking pays off. Heck, you never know when a band who you exchange links with will end up being your tour-mates. About the Author
