Online Karaoke Opens Doors to peopleSubmitted by Marcus Smythe Mon, 6 Sep 2010
Karaoke is one of the very few activities that has remained timeless throughout the decades. Many people enjoy the interaction they have with strangers while performing on stage. There are some people however, who would never be able to get in front of strangers and sing. They miss out on the experience because their fear of public humiliation is stronger than their desire to try out karaoke. So how do we give this group karaoke that they will not be afraid to try? We give it to them online.
With today's advancements in technology and the availability to get anything at the touch of a button, online karaoke has been climbing in popularity. There are many websites to choose from and most offer free karaoke music. There are no genre limitations and you do not have to wait in line or sign up on a clipboard every time you want to sing; all you have to do is log onto a karaoke website and choose a song. Once you have chosen your song, you can sing and re-record until you find your performance satisfactory. You can then decide to make your song public or keep it private. If made public, others can hear you sing and evaluate your performance. The internet has made it possible for anyone to try karaoke and participate in a very non-confrontational way. With such a positive response to karaoke online, many seem to disregard the disadvantages. Websites always advertise that they have free karaoke music, but that only remains true based on one's definition of the word "free". Most sites require registration and an initial profile set up before you can begin singing. Once you register, you are given a wide selection of free music to choose from. There are songs, however, that are reserved for those who upgrade their accounts, and that upgrade requires money. Other sites require you to download an application to your computer so it can recognise the karaoke music. Membership upgrades that require a credit card and application downloads to be able to sing may steer some people away from online karaoke. Most will accept the wide selection of music with a basic registration though because to many, it is not about finding the perfect song and becoming the next karaoke star, it is about singing for the public without the fear of public embarrassment.
