Precious Soul Music

Soul music is a popular style of music created by African American musicians that first gained a following during the 1950s.To take gospel, one of the great African American contributions to Christianity, and use the singing style to talk about love, women, and good times, seemed to some a trifle risky.

These early soul music styling's proved immensely popular. The familiar music of gospel that spoke to the soul was blended with early rock and roll and rhythm and blues Soul(R & B Soul).

By the 1970s, soul music had changed forms to incorporate more message-based music and also some of the stylings of psychedelic rock. The emergence of hip hop culture in the 1970s greatly influenced the soul music that followed in the 1980s. After the decline of disco and funk in the early 80's Soul music became influenced by electro music. In mid 1980s Chicago, house music was heavily influenced by soul, funk and disco. House and techno rose to mainstream popularity in the late 1980s and remained popular in the 1990s and 2000s. Also starting in the 1980s, soul music from the United Kingdom becomes popular worldwide.

Soul music continues to exist in numerous forms. Soul music was born thanks to the innovations of a generation of post-war musicians who, essentially, turned gospel music into a secular form of art

Motown Records as one of the most important independent labels in the early '60s. Assembling an industrious staff of songwriters, producers, and musicians, Motown Records built one of the most impressive rosters of artist in the history of pop music and became the largest and most successful independent record company in the United State by 1964.

The Motown Sound was also defined by the use of orchestration, string sections, charted horn sections, carefully arranged harmonies and other more refined pop music production techniques that borrowed from British Invasion styles.

From 1961 to 1971, Motown achieved 110 top 10 hits and celebrated its fiftieth birthday in 2009.

Motown, also known as The Motown Sound and Northern Soul, is a style of soul music.
