Rock Out on ‘Rock of Love' - The Salinas Californian
--------------------------------------------------------

Bret Michaels, lead singer of 1980s hair metal band Poison, is the star of “Rock of Love,” a VH1 reality TV series that places 20 Playboy models and pornography starlets, among others, at his doorstep.

Michaels will be in Salinas on Friday for a solo concert, part of his “Rock of Love” tour, at the Fox Theater. Two of the women from “Rock of Love” will be there, too.

The tour celebrates the June 3 release of his latest solo album, “Rock My World.” Michaels said his latest work is a combination of both his personal music style as well as the sound he’s created with Poison over the years, which is why he’ll be performing both his solo music and the band’s signature tracks.

The majority of the songs on his upcoming album, including “Go That Far,” the theme for “Rock of Love,” were inspired by the experiences he had while on the show, although he maintains it’s anything but superficial.

“The lyrics just describe what I feel like going in to do ‘Rock of Love,’” Michaels said.

Michaels said he was adamant about making sure his reality show, which centers on finding someone for him to date, is unique.

On the last episode, Destiney Moore, 31, was eliminated from the show, but she said she’s not bitter about it.

“It’s been such a wild ride, pretty much from day one up until the end,” Moore said in a telephone interview March 31 from her house in Hollywood.

“My head was ready to explode,” she said. “We had no TV, no Internet, no music, except for when Bret played his music. We had a house phone, but the conversations were taped. It was hard to talk to anyone. We were basically held captive in a way, but it was definitely a great experience. (There was) a lot of emotion, from one spectrum to the other, and basically everything in between.

“In that situation your whole life revolves around one person, which was Bret,” Moore said.

Not that she really needs it. Chadwell’s popularity on the first season of “Rock of Love” has secured her a piece of the reality pie, with an upcoming show for VH1, set to be filmed in May. The show will be called “Rock of Love Charm School” and will center round the finalists from both seasons of Michaels’ show.

Both Moore and Chadwell will be appearing at the Fox Theater to mingle with the crowd, take pictures and, of course, get a little crazy with their favorite rock star. The concert will be filmed for a new reality series, “Bret Michaels’ Big Rock Road Show,” debuting Oct. 6 on VH1.“In the end, I think people will enjoy the insanity that ensues,” Michaels said.
