Selling Music on a Social Music NetworkSubmitted by urlreader Mon, 27 Oct 2008
When it comes to how you use your time online, if you are a musician, it would behoove you to spend a little more time on your music social networking site and a little less time randomly entering words into the Google search engine to see what you can come up with. A music social network, from the point of view of a musician, is one of the best tools you could possibly be using to forward your musical career. So much of today's music social network community is online now, and that is where most of the fans are as well. Think of it this way- if you are curious about something you don't know, what do you do? You look it up online. It works the same way for music- when people want to hear or buy new music, they are more likely to turn to the Internet than they are to hop in their car and drive to the store.
So, you sell your music online via a music social networking site. Obviously, setting your own pricing is a luxury that not many musicians get to have. That means you can make you music accessible to fans and still be making more money than you would be if you went the mainstream route of music sales. It also gives you the option to sell individual tracks, rather than the entire album. While you aren't going to be making big bucks off of individual tracks, this will allow you to make more sales that you wouldn't otherwise have seen any money from, whether it's because you have a hit that many people purchase, or perhaps because in today's economic situation, people are trying to limit their spending. Either way, money earned is a good thing. Another reason to sing the praises of a music social network is that it provides you the opportunity to interact with your fan base in a way that builds up your relationship with them. It is less tiring than hanging out after a show to shake everyone's hand and sign autographs, and more personal than sending a form letter back to everyone who sends you fan mail. People feel like they have a personal connection to the band when they have a forum on which they can interact. Reading a blog and getting updates from you helps them to feel like you're making contact and showing your appreciation for their patronage, which helps keep them as fans. About the Author
