One of the most important days in a teenager’s life is of course senior prom. High school prom is by far the biggest event of the year and it is important to choose the right entertainment. Today’s high school proms are high-end events based on a theme, with concert type lighting, special effects, and many high end elements. When choosing a DJ for your event you should make sure they too are professionals and capable of handling the music and the lights for your prom.

Finding the Right Disc Jockey

First work with your prom committee and determine what kind of music you want. Asking the student body or committee is the best choice as they are in tune with current music. Make sure you DJ’s library is current and that he has enough sound for the number of couples expected. If you require any special lighting, fog, or other effect be sure your DJ includes this in his/her price and make sure it you have it in writing in your contract. You should expect to pay between $1000 and $2000 for a disc jockey for your prom depending on the number of students you are expecting.

Ask the DJ for Theme Ideas

DJ’s have seen many different party themes and can help you with ideas for planning yours. There are also prom kits that can be purchased from various catalogs, but typically they will be expensive and will require a lot of work to assemble. Disc Jockey’s can provide ideas and additional lighting to enhance the over-all theme from simple color washes to intricate wall projections or video.

Proper Planning Yields a Successful Prom

If you’re responsible for planning the prom you want to ensure everything goes according to plan. This requires an experience professional that can run your show and make you forever famous. Be sure to book your DJ in advance. December is a good time to start looking for a Houston DJ when your prom is the following May. Remember parents are always concerned about what their teenager is doing after the prom so plan accordingly and hopefully the students will stay until the end.
