The Music All Around Us And How It Impacts Our Lives

When you stop and think about it, can you remember a day when you did not hear music in some form somewhere? It can be heard either on purpose or unexpectedly at so many places we go. It is in shopping malls, churches, office buildings, elevators, at the office of a doctor, restaurants and we might even hear it at an automobile repair shop while we wait for our car to be repaired. It is almost as if we have a need for music that we might not even comprehend. It is offered to us as a soothing balm without our even asking.

Music can affect us in all different ways according to what mood we are in. We listen to it in our cars when we drive down the road. This is a habit that we have conformed to. For some of us it is to shorten a trip and make the time seem to go by faster. Some of us listen just to entertain ourselves because we genuinely love the sounds. Many of us have our favorite stations programmed into our radios these days and we just punch a button as we drive to set it what type of music we wish to hear at that time.

The majority of time we listen to music while we exercise. Somehow it can give us motivation as we work out and perhaps take the sting out of the burn we are supposed to eventually feel. Some will listen to the classics while they do slower movements that are meant to relax and stretch us. Those who love fast paced, more frantic workouts like aerobics, like to jazz it up a bit with disco or techno style rhythms. For those who like to run or walk for exercise, the Ipod or MP3 player has generally replaced the walkman. Whatever our musical preference might be, it would appear that it goes hand in hand with exercise.

Music has been associated with romance for as long as anyone can remember. Parking on a lonesome, out of the way spot is usually not complete unless there is a radio playing with soft, romantic tunes of some kind. When we dine out together under candle light it is usually always lightly playing in the back ground or perhaps there will even be a traveling violinist that will move from table to table. Whatever it is about music and love, people seem to need it to make some romantic situations feel complete.

It is almost unheard of to know of someone who hates music, all music, without liking at least one form of it. It is hard to imagine a world where there would be no music at all. What in the world could we ever come up with to take the place of it in our lives?
