Today, there are many different and popular versions of poker that are played both in online and brick and mortar casinos. Texas Hold ‘Em and Omaha Poker are two of the more popular variations. Both games have some similarities in that they both feature five community cards. Some people may even refer to Omaha Poker as Omaha Hold ‘Em. However, many other differences abound.

In Omaha Poker, players are dealt four cards for their hand. This is different than Texas Hold ‘Em where the player's hand is made of only two cards. In both games betting rounds ensue. Then in the end, each player would make the best five card hand that he can. These five cards would be comprised of only three of the community cards on the board. Then the players would select two of their own four cards to complete the hand. In Texas Hold ‘Em players can use any combination of their own two cards and the five community cards to form their five card hand. Many people enjoy Omaha Poker over Texas Hold ‘Em as it allows you the opportunity to have more cards from which to form your hand.

The pace of the two games is different. Texas Hold ‘Em tends to be more of a fast paced game while Omaha is a bit slower. Therefore, you will get more games of Texas Hold ‘Em played in an hour than Omaha Poker.

Many people perceive Omaha Poker as being a much more complicated game than Texas Hold ‘Em. Really it is not and as with any game it takes a little time to get the hang of the manner of play. If you choose to play Omaha Poker at an online casino, there are many educational opportunities and resource available to help you learn the game. Many online casinos have explicitly explained rules of play to assist you. Some may even feature videos to explain the game. Also, most online casinos will allow you free games. These can be used to practice the game and hone your skills prior to using your own money.
