ParlaysSubmitted by David Salt Mon, 5 Oct 2009
There is a wide continuum of sports bets that can be placed on the many sporting events that occur daily. Some of these sporting events can be quite simple while others can be definitely more complicated. One of the types that would lean toward being more involved would be parlays. Despite their complicated nature, many sports bettors place parlays bets. Many point to their popularity due to the fact that parlays can provide a substantial payoff if made correctly.
Parlays are made up of more than one bet. The difficulty comes into play when you want to win your bet. For this to happen, all of the wagers making up the parlay must win or in some cases tie. This can be quite disheartening though when all of your wagers in the parlay are correct but one. One incorrect bet isn't close enough. You have to win all of your bets. Should the event result in a tie or a push, then that bet would be cancelled. This would reduce the total number of bets comprising your parlay. For instance if you have four bets in your parlay, one would be cancelled taking the number down to three. The odds would adjust as well. Parlay bets are quite flexible because you can basically build a parlay bet that is quite diverse. They can be made up of many games. The bets can also be made of different sports or even different types of sports bets. As you layer on the bets within your parlay, your odds of winning become less. For instance, if your parlay consists of six bets, your odds of winning are 36 to one. In terms of money, this means for every pound you wager, you would see a return of 36 pounds. This illustrates the appeal of parlay betting. Not many other bets can multiply your original wager by that much. Despite their appeal, there are a few drawbacks to placing parlay bets. While many agree that the task of making one sport bet and choosing a winner is quite difficult, this tasks becomes compound when choosing more than one winner. Over the long run, many claim that you will lose more money if you only make parlay bets.
