Compare photo framing supplies

Compare photo framing supplies. Photo mounting can be used to display your pictures at their best. There are many mounting techniques from which you can choose the ones that best meet your needs in terms of how well they will preserve your photographs and how easy the method is to apply. The mount board and the matboard will play key roles in the photo mounting process, as will other photo framing supplies.

One quick and easy method is to hinge your photograph directly to the photo mat board. This can be accomplished by using adhesive hinging tissue. Although it will then be challenging to switch out mats in the future, nevertheless this method will keep your photograph correctly positioned under the mat.

If you need an adhesive-free method of mounting, you might want to consider hinging the mount board to the matboard. Simply line up the two boards, and connect them using hinging tape. Another non-adhesive method is to use photo corners. You can hide the corners with an appropriately sized matboard and frame.

Another popular method is to attach the image to the mount board directly. There are several ways to do this. T-hinges consist of two vertical pieces of hinging tape, one part on the photograph and the other on the mount, held in place by two horizontal pieces of the same tape. Dry picture mounting can also be used for the permanent adhesion of the photograph to the mount board. Adhesive tissue is placed on top of the mount board and beneath the photo, and is then pressed together to form a strong bond. You can also adhere pictures to mounts with wet glues and spray adhesives. The advantage is that they are cost-effective and quick means of mounting your artwork. The downside is that your photograph could become damaged if it comes in contact with the glue, and once the photo has been placed on the mount board, its position becomes permanently adhered so no adjustments can be made.

There are two mat and mount boards that stand out. One is foamcore mount board. It is easy to cut to the size you require, and also has the advantages of being a strong yet lightweight material to use. If you wish to frame your photographs to archival standards, you will want to look at bainbridge mat board for the purpose. It is an acid free photo mounting material, and it will help to preserve your photographs for years to come.
