Play Kitchens Are Not Just For GirlsSubmitted by craigan Sun, 13 Sep 2009
Buying toys for children can be a bit difficult at times as parents endeavor to find just the right fit for their little ones. For many, toys are either for boys or girls, with very few being considered unisex. However, contrary to popular belief, there is a toy that is often overlooked when it comes to boys…and those toys are play kitchens.
The fact is, boys can benefit from playing with a children\'s play kitchen. From learning basic kitchen safety skills to using their creativity as they make their own \"recipes\" to developing an appreciation for the art of cooking, there is so much that children can do and experience as they explore a play kitchen. The life lessons that they learn through their play can easily cross over from simply cooking to being responsible, managing a household, and caring for a family. These skills and lessons are valuable for all children and can help them throughout their lives. When selecting play kitchens that are more geared towards both males and females, parents should take care to pick bold and bright colors as not to have the play kitchen appear to be too feminine. There are several different brands, such as the KidKraft Deluxe Let\'s Cook Kitchen, which offer play kitchens in more unisex, primary colors. Also, remember that boys may play a little rougher than girls; therefore, their play kitchens need to be able to withstand rigorous play. The construction should be sturdy, which is why wood play kitchens are preferred by many parents to the plastic type. The plastic versions are prone to splitting and cracking over time. Some find that it is best to invest in a wood play kitchen that will hold up for long term use. Imaginary play, learning responsibility, and using creativity are essential to any child\'s development. Some toys are simply not exclusively \"for boys\" or \"for girls\". Play kitchens are perfect examples of toys that transcend traditionally, gender specific play toys. For children, their play is a big part of their lives and is heavily influenced by what they see. Over the years, most households have evolved so that men are no longer strangers to performing in the kitchen. Boys see this and, just like sporting or handy work, kitchen duty is seen as natural and fun!
Play kitchens are for boys just as much as they are for girls. With a play kitchen set it\'s more about creative pretend play than it is about being a girl or a boy.
