Pretend Kitchens Make Perfect Little Helpers Of PreschoolersSubmitted by craigan Thu, 17 Sep 2009
Preschools and pretend kitchens are a winning combination in many families around the world. Preschoolers are naturally inclined to want to extend their services whenever possible. It\'s one of the ways in which parents can see them growing socially. It\'s also one of the ideals that many parents work to put into their children…the desire to be a help for those in need. Parents relish having a pair of extra hands from time to time as their child may start to help them to do different things as they cook and around the kitchen. A pretend kitchen can be just the platform for a child that wants to get in on the cooking action.
Allowing your preschooler to perform some tasks in the kitchen could really be instrumental in them developing a love of cooking and helping. One way that you can allow a child to help as you cook in the kitchen is to allow them to do small tasks such as pouring or measuring out dry materials. Another possible way that they could potentially help is to use utensils such as a spoon to assist with "cutting" items such as a banana for different recipes. These things they can do on their pretend kitchens if they are near the real kitchen. The pretend kitchens could also be moved specifically to facilitate this opportunity for the child to participate in the cooking experience. Preschoolers could be helpful with other kitchen duty such as organizing the silverware. They can do this on their pretend kitchen\'s surface, placing them into a utensil caddy. This could be the beginning of their organizational skills. If your preschooler can write, you may want to allow them to write out the family grocery list or simply keep track of items that are running out on either their play kitchen\'s bulletin board, like the one on the KidKraft Primary Island Play Kitchen, or on a pad that they use while perched at their pretend kitchen. There are many ways that preschoolers can use pretend kitchens to assist their parents while doing kitchen duty. It\'s up to parents, however, to give them the opportunity to help them and to reinforce the skills that they will develop in the process.
Pretend kitchens and preschoolers go hand in hand as they use them to help their parents during their first interactive kitchen experiences.
