Getting old is such a dread for almost everybody. We get to be worried about a lot of things. The wrinkles, sagging skin and flesh begin to annoy us. We somehow find ourselves worrying more about things that we would normally ignore. For most, growing old is equal to more anxiety, stress and depression. It is something that is bound to hold us back from the goals that we wish to achieve. It is an unmarked deadline that draws nearer, whether we like it or not.

Admittedly, along with these changes that we so fear, retirement poses another threat to any professional. Nowadays, not all companies would give a decent retirement pay. So what are we supposed to do when one day, we find ourselves alone, wrinkled and with no source of income? Scary isn't it? What are we going to do if we do not have the capacity to make money anymore? Where would we live? Who will pay for our food and our growing medical expenses?

Then again, there are reasons why we should not worry. There are means for us to save for the future. We can save money in the banks, under our beds or invest in properties. Apart from the mentioned methods, a lot of people are gearing towards depositing money to their private pension.

Pension is usually granted by the government or a private employer as a reward or benefit to an employee who has rendered service. It is provided to support the main beneficiary and other dependents that he or she may have. However, this does not necessarily mean that self-employed individuals have no means of getting it.

Only a few people realize that a pension can work just like a savings account. A regular folk like us can simply secure our retirement by depositing it to a private pension company. From then, the company will take care of making our "contribution" prosper by investing in other business ventures. The good thing about this set up is that the pensioner, not only reaps the benefit upon retirement age or practically anytime when he wishes to, but they also get to have tax incentives or benefits.

Currently, in UK, people who invest in personal pension are not required to pay for additional tax. Sometimes, the Inland Revenue would even add a certain amount to your savings!

Understandably, there are a lot of us who would raise our eyebrows upon hearing this set up. With the current situation of the economy, investing money has been a great risk. So how would we know if the money we put in is safe? Simple. Choose the pension company wisely. Take time to conduct research about the company's stability, belief system and back up insurance plan before deciding to lay out all your cards. Once we finally find a company which is both trustworthy and stable, let us keep ourselves responsible for keeping track of the development of our retirement "investment". Once we accomplish that, all we need to do is sit, wait and somehow look forward to the once dreaded "retirement" age.
