Ringtones - MP3, Polyphonic or Monophonic, and what means that?Submitted by Carmelita_Moore
The mobile market has been booming these past few years. All over the world, millions of people have embraced the mobile world into their life. The cell phone and their various ringtones have become status symbols. Ringtones show that you’re up to date and happening. You can even take a test that defines which ringtone best suits your personality. You can truly display your lifestyle and certainly your musical taste on your sleeve.
Many inexperienced cellular phone users may be overwhelmed by the technical jargon they encounter when trying to purchase or use a new phone. Terms such as monophonic and polyphonic ringtones, GPRS, baud rate and the like are enough to shake many non-technophiles. But in general it's not that hard and the different Ringtones can be broken down to three different kinds that are in operation now: 1. A polyphonic ringtone means that two or more individual melodic notes and/or tones are played in tandem. This allows polyphonic ringtones to play different instrument sounds, such as guitar, drums, electronic piano, etc., at the same time. Current cell phone handsets can play four to forty individual notes and/or tones concurrently. Most of the current models of cell phones are able to download and play polyphonic ringtones. 2. Real Music ringtones or MP3 Ringtones, are ringtones that came from "real" or actual songs. They use original pieces of music along with lyrics, exactly as the original recording. The format is usually MP3, WAV, WMA, etc. This feature and support for real music ringtones is being built into most new models of almost all mobile phone manufacturers. Real Music Ringtones are also called true tones, real tones, voice tones, full music or MP3 ringtones. 3. The original one tone ringer was the first step towards polyphonic tones, but that ringer, and others like it, was known as a monophonic ringtone. Some of the first cell phones came equipped with a one-tone ringer. Although groundbreaking in its day the monophonic ringtone was only able to reproduce sounds and music one note at a time, two values only being required to produce the tone, pitch and the lenghth of the music. Ringtones are available in various forms. They can be hard-coded onto your phone from the factory. In that case, you only have to scroll the phone menu and pick the one you would like to use as your tone. You can also download Ringtones from the web. In this case, you can use a data cable and transfer the files to your phone and then use as MP3 Ringtones. Ringtones on the web can also be downloaded onto phones through WAP services or SMS transfer. You can alternatively use the key press sequence offered by various sites. With this method, you only follow the steps on the web page to accomplish the composition. Lately, you can compose your own tones by pressing the various keys on your keypad to mimic various notes. Generally, the alpa keys on the phone correspond to the tonic solfa and with a little ingenuity you can compose some primary tones. About the Author
