Save Money on Your TV Subscription - Compare Channel Options

Submitted by Johney Maron
Wed, 9 Dec 2009

In today's tight economy, finding ways to save money means not only finding ways to save on big items like houses and cars, but also on the little things like your TV subscription. Today, it has become more and more important to have access to the best that television has to offer, and if you've acquired a HDTV within the last couple of years, you know exactly what that means. Nothing looks better than a great scene shown on an HDTV. And with satellite package subscriptions including more and more great channels, it is easy to have a huge amount of outstanding TV programming available to watch. But at what cost?

Carefully reviewing your satellite subscriptions can really save you money when it comes to removing the packages you aren't using. For instance, if you subscribe to a lot of the HD channels, are you also duplicating your effort by subscribing to a lot of the same channels that aren't in HD? If so, and there isn't a non-HD receiver in the house, then you're actually wasting money. And when it comes to getting the most for your money, are you really watching all of the channels you've subscribed to? More often than not. At sign up, you're always offered a large discount on multiple package deals. This truly makes it is easy to allow the salesmen to sell us more than we'll actually use.

When initially signing up for satellite programming, or even if you've been a faithful subscriber for years, it is important to sit down and take a look at the satellite channels you're actually using Whether its HD or standard definition, make a list of all the channels that are actually being used by your family members. Decide what your priorities are, whether it's for sports, for movies, for kids programming then start taking channels out of your line up

If you have no kids in the house, it becomes a fairly easy decision to remove the kids and family channels from your line up. If you watch a lot of football, but the games shown on the local channels are enough for a Sunday afternoon's viewing, then most of the sports channels can be eliminated as well. Other channel options like the movie packages can be looked at to see if those are actually being taken advantage of. If no one is watching movies, or the only movies being watched are pay-per-views for the new releases, then most, if not all, of the movie packages can be dropped.

A little careful planning and some time spent researching what your actual needs are can save you hundreds of dollars per year when it comes to satellite television programming. Why pay for something you're not using? And in today's economy, paying for something you're not using isn't just a little thing anymore. It can be the difference between a workable budget and a financial disaster. But take heart, not subscribing to, or removing packages from your line-up to save money not only saves that hard earned cash, but also makes for a much more enjoyable television experience!

After a long week on the road, Johney Maron likes to come home and relax. When he isn't playing golf or out on his boat, he enjoys coming home and watching TV. DISH Network's satellite programming offers all of his favorite shows in high definition, just the way he likes. DISH Network has the best sports, premium tv and movie channels, as well as access to hundreds of video and audio channels.
