Sexy JobsSubmitted by Celeste
In a recent survey, ten jobs were rated as being the sexiest in the world. There were some ones that were obvious, some that worked best for men and others for women. There were also jobs that for some reason, despite the stereotypical sexuality associated with them, didn’t make the list. The list does give away certain factors that make a job have sex appeal.
Entertainers and models were the first on the list, which is not surprising. Celebrities are always on the cover of magazines and who has heard of an ugly model? If you think of movies such as “Troy”, “A Knights Tale” and other heartthrob films, finding entertainers sexy is easy. They do this simply by making you fall in love with the main character. One profession that made it, with females in the position, was nursing. This sexy profession come up as number 6 on the list. It’s no secret that a lot of men find the short white dress and little hat sexy. Looking at some of the other professions on the list, such as fireman, military and construction workers, it would seem that the uniform is the sexiest part. The actual job itself might not be as sexy in action. Nurses have quite a few aspects to their job, such as cleaning out the bedpan, which are unappealing. Although some uniform jobs didn’t make it, just by looking at the comments, airhostess, marines and police people came pretty close to the list. There is something about a uniform, with clean lines and its tailored made cut that attracts the opposite sex. Twenty/thirty years ago, uniforms were created for durability, but today uniform designers have realised that the sexy element is part of the attraction of the job, and are creating uniforms with this in mind. Surveys have shown that an airhostess uniform and attraction play a vital role in flying experiences. Even professions that don’t have a uniform as such, but have a specific style such as "librarian", are considered a sexy. Librarians combine not only the uniform look with a pencil skirt, glasses and white shirt, but also the stereotype that any minute she will unleash her tight bun hair, take off her glasses and reveal her wild side. Looking at the other jobs on the list, uniforms go hand in hand with stereotyping. On the list of top sexy jobs, artists were included just after nurses. Generally artists are not that sexy, but if you think of the stereotype, then all of a sudden they are. This would imply that the root of a sexy job is at the core of who makes the stereotype. The answer to that is the first group on the list, the entertainers. Actors and actresses have, for years, played parts in movies that show the glamorous side to a profession. They give the position a look and association of sexuality to it. For example, the artist stereotype, as mentioned above. Generally you would think of Van Gogh, or Salvador Dali. But actors and actresses have turned the image around. With blue eyes and tussled blonde hair, Leonardo Di Caprio brought a new meaning to sexy artists in his role of Jack on “Titanic”. He drew Rose, played by Kate Winslet, in the nude - much to the upset of her fiancé. For men, actress Rachael Leigh Cook changed the artist's image in her role as Laney Boggs in “She’s All That.” Although in the beginning of the movie her role is dull and uncomplimentary, with the help of Zach Siler, played by Freddie Prinze Jr., her image changes into one of glamour. Brad Pitt contributed to the hot businessman image in both “Mr and Mrs Smith”, as well as “Meet Joe Black.” In both movies, Pitt wore a tailored suit for the majority of the movie. Although he is not the first actor to look good in a suit, Pitt will probably remain an icon for the stereotypical business image. Teachers have to thank Julia Roberts for bringing a sexy edge to their profession. Roberts plays the role of an art teacher, where women were still suppressed into housewife role models, in "Mona Lisa Smile". Michelle Pfeiffer also added to the sexy schoolteacher image, with her role in the movie “Dangerous Minds” which was released in 1995. As entertainers are number one on the list, they are responsible for giving the other professions on the list such a makeover. As long as there are Jane Krakowski actresses playing sexy secretary roles, for example her role as Elaine Vassal in Ally McBeal, certain professions will always be rated as attractive, regardless of the actual work involved.
