Texas Hold Em is a well played variant of traditional poker. Unlike the stud and draw versions of poker, Texas Hold Em has a set of community cards that are placed face up on the table for everyone to view. These cards can be used by everyone in the game to build their poker hand.

Following the first round of betting, three community cards are turned face up. This event in the hand is known as the flop. This is a critical time for players as they must assess their private cards and the flop cards. Then after this assessment, they must decided what their course of action will be for the next round of betting that will ensue promptly. There are some good tips for how to play correctly on the flop. First and foremost, if the flop doesn't work at all with your hand, you need to fold. The flop is a critical part of the game of Texas Hold Em. Most players ante up in the initial round of betting simply to get the chance to be part of the flop. It is also always wise for players new to the game to rule on the side of caution. If you think your hand might not be worth playing, and then stick to that line of thinking. Do not second guess yourself.

It is also wise to allow your opponents the chance to make the second highest ranking hand when you yourself have a big hand on the flop. However, you do not want to help them so much that it might burn you later in the hand.

Another important event in a hand of Texas Hold ‘Em is known as the turn. This occurs when the fourth community card is dealt. Like the three hands comprising the flop, this card is also dealt face up and can be used by remaining players to form their hand. Typically, most players that get this far have fairly good hands. Playing the turn is easier than the flop, which is more crucial. However, finishing out the hand for the win does require successful playing on the turn. Remain alert on the turn and only continue if you believe your hand can beat the others.
