The 9 To 5 The Broadway Musical Becomes A Huge HitSubmitted by reedstickets Wed, 11 Nov 2009
9 to 5 is a Broadway musical that brings together a huge audience. Broadway is very self-explanatory when it comes to the terminology of entertainment and joy one feels. It is a wide street in New York that is extremely well-known for providing live entertainment to both tourists and locals alike. There are only four physical theaters located on Broadway.
Burlesque and vaudeville are also different types of live entertainment, but Broadway is the most popular of them all. With an orchestra playing during intermission and while guests arrive, there is no doubt that all this jazz will be around for a long time to come. The 9 to 5 Broadway musical is a show that portrays the women at top! The music and lyrics are all written by Dolly Parton, and it is hilariously wonderful! Parton was a star in the 1980's movie, and now 9 to 5 is on Broadway. Doralee Rhodes is a character in the play that sings her tune about being a "Backwoods Barbie." Her boss, Franklin Hart Jr., is absolutely in love with her despite the fact that they are both married. Doralee is disgusted throughout the whole musical with Hart, and she gets really mad when she finds out that he has been telling the whole office about a relationship he thinks they have. The role is played by Megan Hilty, and she does a phenomenal job transforming into her very own Dolly Parton. Violet, played by Allison Janney, is a high class, smart woman. She is the brains of the musical 9 to 5 on Broadway. Stephanie J. Block plays the newbie at the company, Judy Bernly. Her character is trained by Violet at the beginning of the musical. Throughout the musical, the three leading ladies show their "chick power" and the hold it has over the character of Franklin Hart, Jr. The musical 9 to 5 on Broadway is being shown at the Marquis Theatre at specific times. There are no shows on Mondays, but Tuesday through Saturday there is a performance at 8 PM. Also, there is a matinee showing Wednesday and Saturday at 2 PM and Sunday at 3 PM. The last showing of the musical is on September 6, so if you want tickets, they can be easily bought online. The musical typically runs two hours and thirty minutes. The LA Times critic really enjoyed the show, but said that one of the big disappointments is "the storytelling proves to be the major flaw." It was also mentioned that the first act may have been a little bit longer than normal, but overall it was an okay performance. If you happen to be in the New York area, and you want to go to see a great musical, then the 9 to 5 Broadway show is the one to really go for. Between Doralee, Judy, and Violet despising their boss and tying him up, the musical is full of laughs and joyous entertainment that will have you on the edge of your seat!
