The Lyrical and Singing Maven of Duncan SheikSubmitted by Writox Wed, 17 Jun 2009
Best-known 1990s singer and songster Duncan Sheik is one of the few creative people who superintended to become flourishing not just in the mainstream euphony industry but also Broadway. With a couple of Grammy and Tony Awards below his belt, Sheik can be taken as one of the few artists who discovered polar and base achiever in both Melodious studies. And as well it should—as a mainstream song author for favorite songs such as "Barely Breathing," his vocals bound to life with moving lyrics and tight music; and as an artist intended on the dramatic art, his lyrics and euphony are intoxicating and simply glorious.
"Barely Breathing" is Sheik's first individual, and the vocal that realise him mainstream acclamation. This breakout hit was the Hot 100's fourth longest-running hit during that time—a rare feat for an creative person like Sheik who isn't even an all-pop vocalist. The words of "Barely Breathing," however, has what no other pop song has during that time—a hook that's challenging sufficient while sticking true to honest view that doesn't reek of syrupy fragrancy which was common of lyrics during that time. Determine the lyrics of "Barely Breathing," and note how the moving view is learnt to annul being too common: "'Cause I am barely breathing / And I can't find the air / Don't know who I'm kidding / Imagining you care / And I could stand here waiting / A fool for another day / I don't suppose it's worth the price, worth the price / The price that I would pay." Nor surprisingly, the piece and mental synthesis of his previous words can still be detected in his later works, specially in his work in the dramatic art. Another identified vocal with euphony and lyrics by Sheik is "Wishful Thinking," which was used in the 1998 movie Great Expectations. As with older individual, ‘Wishful Thinking" has the same acute lyrics, words that do not scream or directly state its aims and meaning. For a pop-rock creative person, Sheik's lyrics are full of surprising metaphors and turn of phrases, alluding to various modern consultations and symbolisation that add depth to his vocals. Note this part of the lyrics of "Wishful Thinking," and find the substance it tries to imply: "Feel the blades of grass / How it brings you back / it will always be / Only as green as you can see." But maybe the summit of his creative career is his affaire in the Braodway Melodious bound Awakening. Winning the Tony Award for Best Melodic during its first run, Sheik's pieces are artful and poetic, even if the topics and the theme of the play are provocative, to say the least. For instance, the lyrics of one of the Melodious's showstoppers, "I Don't Do Sadness," barefacedly use ornate twists. Taste words: "Awful sweet to be a little butterfly / Just wingin' over things And nothing deep inside. / Nothing goin', goin' wild in you, you know. / You're slowing by the riverside, / Or floatin' high and blue."
