After almost 50 years, this hit teenage musical comedy returns to Broadway, with a new cast and a new theatre. Yes this is definitely a must see, especially if you missed it the first time round.

Set in the small town of Sweet Apple Ohio, the lives of a group of teenagers are turned upside down when one of their group decides to draft into the American army. The original play was called "Let's Go Steady". The comedy is based on a book by Michael Stewart. The inspiration for this musical was Elvis Presley, the rock and roll icon's 1950's draft into the US army. The title character's name is based on one of his rivals, Conway Twitty. The original musical staged over 600 performances and was also produced for the London stage for a brief time. The first attempt to revive the musical lasted only 4 performances.

There is also a TV movie and a film inspired by the musical starring some of the original cast.

The musical features some of the most well known songs in theatre history and the movie has been voted by Entertainment Weekly as one of the top 50 best teenage movies of all times. The original musical has also been nominated for and won several Tony awards in the categories of best musical, best actor in a musical, best actress in a musical, and best choreographer/director in a musical.

The current revival of Bye Bye Birdie is being staged by the Roundabout Theatre Company at Henry Miller's theatre on 43rd street. This is a limited-run production and will run only till April 25, 2010. Tickets are available for 7 or 8pm shows from Tuesday to Saturday. There is an additional 2 pm show on Wednesday and Saturday and a single 2 pm show on Sunday.

The musical runs for 2 hours and 30 minutes with an intermission in between. John Stamos stars as Albert Paterson, Gina Gershon as Rosia, and Nolan Funk as Conrad Birdie. The popular songs from the original are back with hits like 'Put on a happy face', 'Kids', and 'A lot of Livin' to do'.

This is a great family show as it was originally written for the teenage set in the 1950s. There is not a bad word to be heard, additionally the humour is very tame and will have the 'tweens' in your life rolling in their seats.

Critics have published great comments about the musical and time is running out for you and your family to see the show. This is a great weekend treat for the family during the holiday season. It is a far cry from the movies being aired nowadays.

Your best bet to purchase tickets is through an online retailer since they offer the best choice of dates and seating. There are also some great and very competitive deals to be availed of online, and you can save yourself the bother of having to pick up the tickets as most retailers will be able to get them delivered to you.
