At the conclusion of the 2008-2009, football season the three teams placing in the top three sports in numerical order were Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea. These three teams had better records than the seventeen other member teams comprising the Premier League. These teams and their sport were often followed not only for sport but also for sports betting.

The Manchester United Football team finished first for the 2008-2009 season. The team won 28 of their 38 games which catapulted them to the top spot. Manchester United Football Club boasts being an original founding member of the Premier League when it was begun in 1992. The club is one of the most successful football clubs in English Football history. Since joining the Premier League, the club is one of the most wealthy football clubs worldwide and brings in the most money annually. The current manager of the team is Alex Ferguson. Since his leadership began in 1986 when he replaced then manager Ron Atkinson, the club has boasted 22 major honours.

Located in the city of Liverpool, England, the Liverpool Football Club holds many distinctive honours. They have won the most trophies of any English football club. The club has a long history dating all the way back to its founding in 1892. The team's uniforms are all red, a departure from their previous red and white uniforms. The club currently calls Anfield their home stadium. However this is scheduled to change when the team moves to Stanley Park which is still under construction. The Liverpool Football club has a long standing intense rivalry with first place finished Manchester United as well as Everton.

Coming in third placed was the Chelsea Football Club, which is located in West London. This club also boasts a long history, beginning in 1905. The team is known as The Blues were once called the Pensioners. Their uniforms are royal blue with white socks with their current crest featuring a lion. For the 2008-2009 football seasons, Chelsea had the fifth highest average attendance per game at their home which is Stamford Bridge football stadium. The football club also can boast that it has the fifth highest average attendance in English football history.
