Bingo is a fun-filled game played using a card or ticket imprinted with numbers. These numbers are then announced by someone known as a bingo caller. Once the numbers are announced, players then cover or daub the number located on their bingo card. To keep the game interesting, many bingo callers overtime have begun referring to the numbers they call using other nicknames. With so many nicknames being used for the same number, it's not a bad idea to brush up on your bingo call nicknames before heading to your local bingo hall. Some of the common nicknames explained below.

The number one can be called using several different nicknames. Some callers may refer to it as Little Jimmy, buttered scone, Nelson's column, Kelly's Eye or at the beginning. Kelly's eye is referring to Ned Kelly, the Australian gangster that only had a single eye. The number two could called as either me and you or one little duck. The duck reference is referring to the fact that the shape of the number two is similar to the silhouette of a swan. The number nine may be called doctor's orders. Many people do not know the reasoning behind this particular bingo call. During the Second World War, a number 9 was another name for a laxative. The bingo call for number 10 changes according to whom is the current Prime Minister of England. It would be referred to their den. Since Gordon Brown is the sitting prime minister, a number 10 might be called as "Gordon's Den".

The bingo call for the number twelve requires no explanation. A twelve may be referred to as one dozen whereas thirteen may be called a baker's dozen. Other bingo calls for thirteen make reference to the unlucky aspects of the number. Fourteen may be called as Valentine's Day, making reference of course to the fact that the holiday occurs on the 14th of February. Young and keen or rugby team may be how the number fifteen is called during a bingo game. Rugby teams are made up of fifteen players which explains this call.
