Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin

All About the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin
Made from gold mined completely from locations in Canada, the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin is made of 24 karat gold. Differing from US gold Eagles or Krugerands that are composed of 22 carat gold and containt some additional alloy metals, Maple Leaves are 99.99% completely pure. They are world renowned as the most pure gold coins in existance.

Since they are made of twenty four carat gold, Maple Leaf gold coins definitely are less strong than Eagles or Krugerands. Pure gold bullion has rarely been used as a regularly circulated currency because it can be easily worn out, damaged, or bent over time. But even though they are officially minted legal tender coins in Canada, Maple Leaf coins are meant to be kept by investors and collectors, rather than circulated. You can not walk into a Canadian 7-11 and buy lunch with a Maple Leaf gold bullion coin, even though they are legal tender. So since they are really supposed to be held by collectors and investors, maybe the lack of durability is not such a big deal.

Maple Leaf coins are one of the most sought-after bullion coins in many markets because they are known to be "pure" bullion. There are people who are disappointed when they find out that another coin is not twenty-four carrat. Perhaps there is an aesthetic attraction to owning pure gold. Or possibly people want to have the ability to easily melt their gold day in the event of a disaster. And there are likely people who misunderstand the "impure" status of lower karat gold coins, thinking that they contain less gold than a 24 karat coin of the same denomination. But the fact of the matter s that a 1-oz. Maple Leaf and a 1-oz. Krugerrand have exactly the same amount of gold inside them. The additional metals are not counted in the weight, only the gold content is counted. In any case, these beliefs are all reasons for the disproportionate popularity of the gold Canadian Maple Leaf coin.

Another cause of the Maple Leaf's wild popularity is its beautifully designed images. The simple but memorable appearance of the maple leaf (which also appears on the Canadian flag) immediately seizes the viewer and brings up images of Canada's majestic natural wonders and abundant natural resources. The back side of the coin features an image of the Queen, showing Canada's identity as a former settment of the British and a present-day Commonwealth country. The design is similar to the Canadian penny (1 cent coin) a coin which depicts the a maple's leaf on the obverse and the Queen on the reverse.

The Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin is available in the following denominations: 1-Troy Ounce 1/2 troy oz, a quarter troy ounce, 1/10 troy oz. 1/20 Troy Ounce. You can also find silver versions of the Canadian Maple leaf coins, which are pure bullion just like their gold brethren.

The Canadian Maple Gold Coin makes either a gorgeous treasure to enjoy, or an intelligent investment for the future. For those of you who intend to take good care of their collections and make an effort to keep their coins in good condition, the 24 karat Canadian Maple Leaf gold coin is a fine addition to, or starter of, any collection.
