Avoiding Mistakes by Choosing the Right Student Credit Card

For students who are applying for a student credit card for the first time, this article was made for you. Below are the most common mistakes that students make when getting a student credit card. Avoid these mistakes and save yourself from trouble:

Applying for the wrong student credit card. There are many credit cards for students in the market but now all of them is right for you. Pick a student credit card that matches your needs. Ask yourself, how do you plan to manage your payment? Do you intend to pay off your monthly balances IN FULL? If so, you may consider a student credit card with rewards so you can get enjoy bonuses and perks. Meanwhile, if you need to carry over your balance each month, then you should go with a student credit card with the lowest APR.

Getting a credit card with exclusive affiliations. There are student rewards credit cards that offer huge bonuses and discounts but only for "qualifying purchases'. That means you only get points for purchases
made from selected shops and establishments. A student credit card with affiliations can be great if you you REALLY make most of your purchases from those shops. If not, it would be very difficult for you to collect points and get rewarded.

Putting up with high annual fees and charges. Student credit cards with rewards often impose high annual fees and penalty charges to make up for what they give. The only way you can avoid them is to examine the Terms and Conditions of your chosen student credit card.

Choosing a student credit card because of the introductory offer. Does the student credit card offer an incredibly low interest rate for 6 months? Sounds like a great deal? Perhaps. But before you sign up, make sure that you really understand the terms of the offer. What happens when the introductory period expires? How much will the interest rate be? If you're not careful, you could get stuck with a high rate student credit card when the 6-month introductory period ends.

Not doing comparisons. Don't get too excited about getting your first credit card. Choosing a credit card is an important decision and you'll want to take the time doing research and comparison before making a final choice. Don't sign up in a hurry thinking that the "great offer" could end. A truly great deal is one that is not lost easily.

Submitting applications to different credit card companies. Unlike regular credit cards, applying for a student credit card is easy since it does not require credit history. Many student credit cards grant instant approval without requiring a co-signer at all. Submitting too many student credit card applications at once could get you in trouble. Remember, one student credit card should be enough to meet your needs.

Not reading the fine print. Unfortunately, many people don't even bother to read and understand the fine print. But if you really want to discover the REAL DEAL about your chosen student credit card, you should be willing to spend a few extra minutes reading and understanding the complete Terms and Conditions of the card.
