Free Access to Credit Reports-Everything You Need to Know!

You have probably heard a lot about annual credit reports. What is it and what is its significance for you as a consumer? Why do you need to have your own copy of your yearly credit report?

To explain the basics of what an annual credit report is, here are things you need to know. This piece of paper summarizes all your loans and repayments for a certain period of time. It provides in detail all the payments, and even your non-payments, of your loans. The annual credit report is what financial institutions use to decide how good or bad a credit risk you are. It is of utmost importance to have your own copy of your credit report so that you can compare it with their copy, so that any erroneous details can be corrected immediately.

According to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FRCA), Experian, Equifax and TransUnion are mandated to release a free copy of an individual's credit report every year. These three are consumer reporting companies who are authorized to give you a free report as soon as your identity is verified. Remember that this is for free, so be careful in visiting other sites that offer you "free annual credit report" but are actually scams. So if you want to get your credit report online, visit the annualcreditreport.com site because this is the only site authorized by the three consumer reporting companies.

One of the mandated consumer protection methods provided for under the FRCA is that once you receive your copy of your own annual credit report and notice some erroneous details, you should immediately report it to any of the three consumer reporting companies so that it can be redone. In turn, they must correct it at the soonest possible time because erroneous records can have a great negative impact on your credit scoring, affecting all of your current and future financial dealings.

Don't let the fear of your debt or bad credit take over your life. Get the facts about credit scores and learn how to get control of your debt. To learn more about free access to credit reports visit us at http://creditscoreanswers.org now
