Merchant accounts are of various types and should be selected depending on the nature of the businesses. There are three forms of merchant accounts retail merchant account, MOTO (Mail Order Telephone Order) accounts and Internet merchant accounts. This article will throw light on Internet merchant account.

Businesses dependent on online transactions uses Internet merchant account. It is also well known that the online merchant who does not provide the customers the ability to pay for the product using their credit cards has a little chance to succeed as online shopping depends on the credit card transactions. For this the online merchant requires to open an Internet merchant account which allows quick and convenient payment method for the customers and will pull in huge profits for the merchant.

Internet Merchant Accounts are very much similar to Mail order telephone order (MOTO) accounts and do not require the credit card to be present for the transactions. These transactions as the name suggest can only be done through the Internet.

Merchants with Internet merchant accounts use a payment service gateway or a virtual terminal to process the credit card transactions. With an Internet merchant account, payment processing usually comes in the form of real-time processing. Real-time processing is ideal for online merchants because the credit card is directly processed at the time an order is placed. The customer quickly receives an email notification that the order is accepted and the fund transfer is approved, once verification and approval of the credit card is received. There is usually a slight delay of a few days before the funds will be deposited into your bank account.

With the ever increasing online shopping market there are a number of providers offering Internet merchant accounts to online merchants as against earlier days when there were limited Internet merchant account providers. All that is required by the online merchant is to select the best possible Internet merchant account provider for their business.
