Financial Factors

Submitted by Anomaly

One of the leading causes of stress is financial in nature. No matter how much money you may have, it never seems to be enough. Ask anyone who has ever inherited a large portion of money or even lottery winners. In fact, many winners of the lottery are often plagued by new and unforeseen financial woes that they never even took into consideration when buying that one-dollar ticket with their morning coffee. Winning all that money is supposed to alleviate financial difficulties, not create more though. So how is any of that possible?

It is understood that not many “average” people win the lottery or inherit large sums of money. Still, those that do will still be greatly disappointed when they discover the newfound problems that they have in their lives. The problems may stem from burning through the money too quickly or every distant cousin they have ever met (and some they have never even met once) now coming to them with open arms and expectations of being financially rewarded just for showing up. The fact remains that almost everybody has financial difficulties and needs to learn how to deal with them in order to get rid of the excessive stress in their lives due to financial concerns.

So how is it possible to get past the financial difficulties that plague almost everyone and to get rid of the additional stress that is associated with financial matters? It is not by any means impossible but it will take work on your part and a certain level of commitment. Remember in the first paragraph when you read, “no matter how much money you have, it will never be enough?” I heard you agreeing with that comment. While that may be a slight overstatement, most people would still agree that it is true.

How did you learn to live with the deductions when they began making deductions for your insurance or your 401K? Anyone who has ever had their paycheck “attached” for past due accounts will be forced to begrudgingly admit that they survived the experience? How did they do this if it is so difficult? In the case of a paycheck that has been attached, the wages were removed before they ever got their paycheck. I doubt that anyone would willingly accept this as a viable solution to his or her financial problems. It would certainly not reduce stress on a more personal level.

What they did was they learned to make sacrifices. But sacrifice indicates something that they did not willingly give up, so how can that help relieve financial pressure or stress? What type of items did they sacrifice? Well, in that case they probably sacrificed much more than they thought they could and almost certainly more than they wanted to. Now it is not recommended that you go to such extremes but there are two very valid and reasonable points you should look at here.

No matter how much money you have, it will never be enough so you have to learn to make adjustments in your spending. There are always places where you can cut your cost of living and find better ways to utilize your disposable discretionary income. Once you have figured those two issues out and accepted them as truths in your life, you can begin not only recovering financially but investing in your future and that will remove a lot of unnecessary stress from your life.
