Find Out How To Use Debt Consolidation To End Collection CallsSubmitted by jarnold Thu, 14 May 2009
Deep in debt is not a good place to be in, still numerous people find themselves in exactly that situation in these economic times, often through no fault of their own. When you take out a loan or a mortgage, you are not counting on the fact that you might be laid off from your job before the loan term ends, or that you might be in the middle of a nasty divorce, or rack up high medical bills, or various other possibilities.
One of the unfortunate things that occurs as you get further and further behind in your bills is that you start getting phone calls at home from collection agencies. These are not usually friendly calls by any dream you might have, but are really firm, occasionally approaching rude, with many of the callers leaving you with a psychological image of the call coming from The Godfather headquarters. If we can assume your debt load is not yet at the point of looking at filing bankruptcy, you do have another alternative, and this choice has literally been beneficial for many individuals in this bad situation did not even know that this option existed for them. That alternative is debt consolidation. No, it is not yet another personal loan that you would state to the loan company or bank you are using for the purpose of debt consolidation. While that may be an option, that approach is really only borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, and does very little to help you with your overload of debt. Instead, debt consolidation is a program whereby you turn all your bills over to the debt consolidation company, and they talk terms with your creditors to reduce interest rates, lower payments, sometimes even being successful to get late fees and over-limit fees eliminated. But the element to remember with this is that they do not pay off your debts for you. All your debts are lumped into one bundle, and you make a single payment to the debt consolidation company each month, and they in turn make payments to your creditors. If you miss your payment to them, they will not make a payment to your creditors in that month, which could put you in an even worse situation than you are now. The primary benefit to you is that the sum total of your monthly payments is significantly decreased, which has the very beneficial effect of giving you some much-needed financial breathing room until you can get your financial act together again. For example, if you were paying out $3000 a month on all your bills, chances are high that your single payment to the debt consolidation company could have that payment under $2000 or even less, and still keeping your creditors satisfied. This likewise assists with your credit score, since from a credit reporting point of view, it looks like you are doing your payments on time, which is the single biggest thing you can do to raise your credit score. And of course the added benefit is that when you are making your payments to your debt holders every month via your debt consolidation program, you will no longer be those harassing, annoying, embarrassing, and occasionally frightening phone calls from the collection agencies. Seriously think about debt consolidation and determine if it is the right answer for you. Once again, it is very much better than the long-term negative results of bankruptcy, and can assist you to get back on the right financial path. About the Author
