Funding College- Forget the LoanSubmitted by echo_promotions Tue, 5 Feb 2008
If you are a high school graduate who is considering attending college, please do not think that loans are your only form of financing!
When you are in need of financial help there are more suitable methods to get it than taking out a private or federal loan. Loans are difficult to pay back because of the ever-increasing interest that comes with them. Rather than take out a loan, try a scholarship or grant instead! The incredible thing about scholarships and grants is that they never have to be paid back. Nevertheless, you must set aside some time to search and apply for them. Scholarships: Many organizations and businesses like the Lions Club, Optimist, Chamber of Commerce and the Girls & Boys Club provide scholarships to college students. You can apply for military, church, and union scholarships as well. If you're looking for a quick and easy way to find hundreds of scholarships, look no further than the internet. Simply search for "scholarships" on any search engine. Or try FastWeb.com. This site can help you find scholarships that fit you and your interests! Many of the scholarships you find will require an essay to be written. Don't stress about this! Look for one that matches you well and then have a seat and start typing. Before you send it in, have a someone you trust proofread it. You may also want to check with the university that you will be enrolling in. Frequently they'll give scholarships to those with high GPA's or SAT scores. They typically give out scholarships based upon athletic abilities also. If you are still in high school, ask the Financial Aid office about scholarships. Your counselor would also be a great person to ask, since they'll will know know your needs better. The most essential thing to do is to start right now. Start looking around and asking around for scholarships. Grants, like scholarships, are wonderful because you never have to pay them. Grants are awarded depending your special interests, ethnicity, or financial need. You can apply for grants through private groups, educational institutions, and the federal government. Government grants are given based solely on the financial state of the student. In order to apply for one you must go to FAFSA.com and fill out an application or you can take one from your financial aid office. Depending on whether you sent it in electronically or physically, your Student Aid Report will be sent to you in about three to six weeks. NOTE: Use of this article requires links to be intact.
