Health insurance is one thing that everyone should have. There is a reason why we need it and that is it can take care of us when our health betray us or when we are involved in an accident. Even if you have a stable job, a complicated surgery could drain your resources thus it is important to have a medical insurance that would be there when you need it.

There are agencies and programs that you should know about if you are looking for a medical insurance. This list should help you out contact the right agency or enroll for the right program when you want to take out a new health insurance policy.

State Health Insurance Programs are also programs created to help the elderly. This help could be used in buying medical equipment or medication. These programs also cover those individuals who are below the poverty line and other people with disabilities.

For the elderly and those with disabilities under 65 years old, there's Medicare. This is a Federal program created especially for the senior citizens of the country. Medicaid is another Federal program which is also a state program. This on the other hand is formulated to help people whose income is below the poverty line. Also, people with disabilities can also avail of this federal/state program.

Another federal law passed to help people with health insurance is the COBRA or the Congressional Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. It controls the continuation of health coverage for those people who are eligible to take advantage of them.

While researching for medical insurance quotes online, you might come across the term Self-Funded Plans. These plans are defined as medical insurance plans funded by "a corporation, an association, a union, or a state or municipal government agency. ERISA or the Employee Retirement Income Security Act is the federal law which looks over the operation of such plans.

For retired armed forces personnel, there's the Civilian Health And Medical Program of the Uniformed Services. This is a federal health insurance program which retired soldiers can avail of. Their qualified family members can also be enrolled in this insurance program.

These are just some of the programs you might be qualified to enroll in. Even with a good economy, it's always great to have these kinds of programs which can help you out when really needed.
