Auto Insurance Basics: What Not To DoSubmitted by chadisenberg Tue, 29 Sep 2009
Some people learn from their mistakes. Some people don't. And in some cases, people can't afford that. We all know that auto insurance is not the least expensive thing we need. Therefore, you should know now what not to do when it comes to taking out an auto insurance policy.
Getting an insurance policy is just as tricky when negotiating for the price on an auto dealership. Some insurance company representatives are so slick when talking with the customer highlighting only the good things about a certain policy. No matter how good the policy sounds, don't take them up on their offer immediately. Always ask around. Contact auto insurance companies with good reputation and provide them with the information they need to give you your rate. It may take some time but you will get the best value for your money. Do not be a compulsive buyer, especially when it comes to insuring your car. If you have a car which can be classified as a beater, don't over insure it. This is especially true if you are planning to get a replacement for it in the near future. One suggestion would be to get liability only insurance. This should protect you from a lawsuit if you accidently hit somebody although you will not have collision deductible. Another thing that you should not do is to file small claims. In the unfortunate event that you are involved in a vey minor accident sustaining minor damages to your vehicle, it is wiser to go to your trusted auto body shop and ask how much it would cost for the minor damage to be repaired. If it is lower than your collision deductible, then you can just shoulder the repair cost. While it would not seem the logical thing to do right away, if you look further down the road, you can see that it is the better decision. A clean record would lower your premiums in the future when you ask to be rated again. A bonus tip for insurance: ask your auto insurence company if they also offer home insurance. If they do and you get both home and auto insurance, you can no doubt ask for a multi-line discount. As always, shop around for the best provider of both home and auto insurance. These are just some of the things people should consider when getting auto insurance but these should help a lot.
