Expatriate International Medical Insurance For US CitizensSubmitted by webmark
Expatriate health care insurance is something that you need to think about long and hard before you move overseas. A large number of individuals travel overseas every year on holiday and find themselves falling in love with their holiday destination. This occurs all the time and you need to remember that your requirement for health insurance coverage will remain unchanged no matter where you are in the world.
You will still face all the same accident risks overseas which you face at home but you could well encounter some very different issues when it comes to the cost of your own healthcare and that of your family. One thing which you definitely do not want to end up with is being left in limbo. For instance, let us assume that you are working overseas and that while driving to work you have a car accident and suffer a number of minor injuries. The local police who attend the scene of the accident take you to the local hospital for treatment and, after the hospital has finished attending to your injuries, you are given your bill. Exactly how are you going to pay? If you are living overseas but continue to retain your US citizenship then you will probably not be eligible for free treatment even in a country with a system of free healthcare. You can naturally turn to your health insurance from back home but, unless you have only been away for a reasonable short time and are able to claim this bill as vacation cover, you insurance company is unlikely to pay out. When all else is said and done you will have no choice but to to pay for your treatment in cash and simply hope that you have got enough money. The sensible thing to do is to think about arranging health insurance that is specifically designed for expatriates like yourself prior to heading off overseas. There are various health insurance programs available that cover almost every situation imaginable and that will give you a great deal of peace of mind. If you are traveling overseas to work for a company that is based in the US then they could well have a health insurance plan designed to cover you and your family as long as you are working overseas. This is obviously something which you should explore as almost all employers will cover at least part of the healthcare costs of their employees overseas. If your employer does not give you the medical cover which you require, or if the question of provision by an employer is not relevant, then you could do a search on the Internet for expatriate health insurance cover and you will discover a wealth of information from many brokers and companies who are more than willing to help in providing a suitable expat health insurance plan. If you do purchase expatriate health insurance online however you will have to read through the particulars of any plan with care and be satisfied that you know exactly what is covered and what is not. You definitely do not want to arrive at your destination and discover when you come to submit your first claim that the policy you have purchased does not cover you for your claim or that it is void in your chosen country. Finally, make sure that you begin your search for an expat health plan as soon as you know when and where you will be going to ensure you get the best deal. About the Author
