Know the Tricks to Getting Fair Car Insurance Quotes-Think Like an AgentSubmitted by henry007 Thu, 16 Jul 2009
First, an insurance agent is always out to sale his product. Therefore, like any business person he/she will almost always try to get you to buy coverage you may not necessarily need.
So here is what you do need. You are required by law to carry only liability on your vehicle if you own the vehicle and have no lien holder. Granted there are several different liability limits to choose from, and every state has their own minimum limits. Make certain to check to see what those are by researching the Department of Insurance or simply asking someone who might know for sure. This way when you are getting car insurance quotes, you will know exactly what limits you want and need. If you do have a lien holder on your vehicle and are required to carry full coverage or comprehensive and collision, you can choose what ever you want your deductibles to be. That is unless the lien holder specifies a certain maximum limit. When getting car insurance quotes know what deductibles you want to carry on comprehensive and collision. Deductibles are what you would pay out of pocket before the insurance would pay. Comprehensive is fire, theft, glass breakage, vandalism, and animal collision. Collision is what repairs or pays off your vehicle in an at fault or single car accident. The higher your deductibles the lower the premium will be. So do not let an agent tell you that you must carry a zero deductible on comprehensive and a $500 deductible on collision. That is solely your decision. If you are a good driver with no accidents, violations, and/or ever had your license suspended and have been carrying insurance with another company, you are probably eligible for insurance with a standard rated company. These are companies such as Farm Bureau Insurance, State Farm Insurance, and All State Insurance. These companies and other standard companies can keep their premiums lower by not writing policies for people who have a bad driving record or needs SR-22's. Farm Bureau and State Farm are fairly similar in the auto insurance in the fact that they have some of the lowest premiums available; and, generally, are two of the easiest companies to deal with. These two companies will not exclude a spouse if one is not driving. If you need and SR-22 or have a poor driving record or not been carrying insurance, you will need to check with substandard companies such as Direct Insurance or Safe Auto Insurance. These two companies have fairly reasonable rates, will exclude a non-driving spouse, and insure those with poor driving records or in need of an SR-22. In conclusion, always do your homework on any company you are considering. Make sure they are highly rated and do not have complaints against them, and make absolutely certain of their cancellation policies. Getting car insurance quotes if not hard if you just think and talk like an agent.
