Ways to Find a Reputable Travel Insurance Company in AustraliaSubmitted by Peter Smyth Fri, 23 Jan 2009
Just as with any insurance, you should purchase travel insurance in Australia from a reputable company that is established and has a record of providing quality travel insurance. When traveling, you can’t afford to take too many risks and need to know that you are covered by an insurance company and policy that you can trust.
Determining if a travel insurance company in Australia is reputable doesn’t have to be a daunting task. Using the internet will allow you to easily and safely choose the right company for your needs. Check public forums and consumer agencies No arena speaks louder than that of public opinion, and the internet is the number one venue for public opinion and personal experiences when it comes to finding reputable travel insurance. You should use search engines and public forums to find information on travel insurance companies that you are interested in. Also search consumer agencies and associations that recommend your chosen company. A reputable Australian travel insurance company will have high ratings for: • A free-phone number should you be unsure of what you are entitled to and need help understanding parts of the product disclosure statement • User friendly and secure websites that are hacker safe, tested daily, and offer single socket encryption technology for online purchases • An underwriter with excellent financial ratings (ratings available through Standard Poors) • Friendly proficient customer service, preferably both online and by phone • Processing of claims accurately and efficiently • Fair and competitive rates offered by their underwriters • Coverage to a large number of travel destinations Using this checklist as a guideline, you’ll be sure to find a wealth of knowledge on the reputation and performance of the travel insurance company of your choice online. Narrow your search by looking for companies that stand behind their insurance products Not every travel company is willing to put their money where there mouth is. As a result, not only is it important that you find a travel company that will help you select the travel insurance policy that is right for you from the start, but you should select one that is flexible and understands that sometimes plans do change. A great example of offering flexibility in travel insurance can be found in what is commonly known as a “cooling off period”, in which you are able to receive a 100% refund on your travel cover as long as you have not already begun your trip. We all know that things happen so you need a travel insurance policy that will allow you the opportunity to make changes if necessary. Ask questions and read the fine print! Always reference the travel insurance company’s product disclosure booklet(s) to ensure what you are and aren’t entitled to. If you believe there are Grey areas in your policy or there is information contained within it that you don’t understand, you should feel free to give them a call on their free phone number and ask away. If the company doesn’t give you black & white answers, it’s in your best interest to keep looking. A reputable company will be honest and straightforward regarding their products.
