Ways to Save on Your Car InsuranceSubmitted by henry007 Thu, 16 Jul 2009
A substantial amount can be saved throughout the year by making minor changes to your policy. Remember, it is your policy; and your insurance representative should be able to sit down with you to carefully look over your policy.
Any changes you decide upon need to be in line with your state's insurance requirements. It is wise to familiarize yourself with the laws of your state so no penalty is incurred. Excluded Drivers If your household does not have any legal drivers under the age of 25, you may choose an option which excludes drivers. This will trim a little off the monthly price when the company is assured that no drivers under 25 will have access to the vehicle you have insured with them. Features Other companies are now offering coverage for towing and roadside service by including these features in their packages as incentives. If you are covered under, say a cell phone plan or another company you may consider having this feature removed from your insurance policy. Rental cars can be excluded from an insurance policy. You may choose to delete this option if you have more than one vehicle in the household and if yours was disabled you would not be without transportation. Flood coverage is optional in most areas. If you live in an area whch is above sea level and is not prone to flooding, this is a feature you may choose to delete to reduce your premium. Wise Options If you are set financially so that you can set aside a savings account to designate for transpotation emergencies, there are a couple of features that could be optional. If you own your vehicle you may choose to drop collision insurance or uninsured motorist. These are very important features, but over the year quite a bit can be trimmed off policy costs. The money you save on the policy can also be placed in the saving to help pad it further. Multiple Discount Most insurance companies offer discounts for multiple vehicles included on the same policy. If it is possible, cover all your vehicles using the same company's policies. They also may offer certan discounts if you carry more than one type of insurance. For instance a well-known company offers discounts on insurance premiums when a customer uses their vehicle and life insurances. This also makes it easier for the customer when there is only one payment deducted each month for multiple items. Remember is it your policy! You have the right to sit down and go over each detail included in the policy for which you are paying. It is well worth your time to sit and look at each feature and decide if it is truly to your benefit or if it is an unnecessary expense which can be removed. You are paying for their services and have the option to keep and remove features.
