Decorating by Room

Submitted by neillisa

Decorating your entire house may seem like a big project, but the pros will tell you it's not that hard. The trick is to break it up into several smaller tasks by working one room at a time. After all, every room has a different purpose and character-it only makes sense to focus on them individually. By planning out each room on its own, you can make sure each one does its job while keeping everything in style.

First on your list is probably the living room, the place where everyone gets together and where you often lead guests when they arrive. This room should be neutral enough so that it appeals to everyone, but still have a unique touch that tells people it's your personal space. Consider tying your color scheme together with an area rug that complements your main or secondary colors.

Another important room in the house is the kitchen. Often called the heart of the home, it's where all the work gets done and where families spend much of their time together. Your kitchen décor should be conducive to working, but also have a warm, welcoming look. Warm earth colors like brown and yellow usually work well. If you do a lot of kitchen work, you may want to invest in a kitchen area rug to take some strain off your feet.

Bathrooms also need a bit of décor, even if you see them mostly as utilitarian spaces. While it doesn't have to be as elaborate as your living room or as cozy as your kitchen, it has to be relaxing-after all, many people consider the bath their little personal sanctuary. Get a stylish vanity sink, a shower curtain in your favorite color, or a bathroom area rug with a nice relaxing pattern.

Finally, there's your bedroom-the place where you get to put your feet up and relax at the end of the day. Here's where you can really be yourself and decorate the way you want. Choose your favorite colors, textures and images, and use them to give your room that unique personal touch. Finish of with a comfy bedroom rug and you have the perfect personal space.

The best way to decorate a home is by working one room at a time. Not only does it make the task simpler, it also gives each room its own personality. Here's a quick guide to help you get started. Read another article on bathroom area rugs.
