Obama Administration looking for more ways to make Loan Modifications easier

Submitted by John Caroll

It has been almost two years now since the beginning of the housing crisis but unfortunately there seems to be no end in sight. Most analysts believe that it is the collapse of the housing industry that started the downward trend in the economy and the Obama administration absolutely must do everything it can to revive this sector and reduce the number of foreclosures which have been rising month after month despite the efforts of the government.

Of course President Obama and his team realize the importance of stopping foreclosures at all cost and hence have announced a number of steps to make it easier for homeowners to apply for a loan modification which is one of the best and most acceptable solutions to all parties involved.

Apart from the mortgage stimulus package announced in March of this year which tried to make it easier for the homeowners to qualify for a loan modification, more measures were announced such as additional support to be given to homeowners who have two mortgages on their homes. It is expected that in the coming months several other such measures will be announced and states are encouraged to help homeowners in whatever way they can as well. In Texas, where a homeowner could lose their home within 41 days of getting their first foreclosure auction notice now has introduced a bill which will give much more time to these homeowners to rework their home loans with their bank, seek the help of qualified loan modification consultants and also if required, to sell their home on the open market.

Homeowners who are currently falling behind on their mortgages say that all they need is some assistance to figure out the best solution for them to save their home and get a revised mortgage plan which will enable them to meet their new monthly payment requirements.

Experts believe apart from the number of measures and stimulus packages announced, the Obama administration needs to do more on educating the homeowners on their options. It is believed that a lot of the foreclosure could be avoided if only the homeowners knew what they could do to save their homes. It has been seen that there are still thousands of families who are not clear about mortgage loan modifications and how it can help them.

These homeowners need to get in touch with loan modification consultants who will first explain the process of a loan modification and then check if they qualify for one. The consultants also submit the applications with the lenders on the behalf of the homeowners and at the same time negotiate the best modified mortgage plan which is suitable to both the homeowner and the lender.

It is also important for the homeowners to know that to protect their interests, they should not pay upfront fees for the services of a loan modification consultant until their loans are actually approved for modification by their lender. In fact, states like California prohibits licensed real estate companies to accept any upfront fees to complete a loan modification without an Advance Fee Listing Agreement.
