Low Commission Stock Trading

Low commission stock trading does not mean you have to sacrifice tools. There are a number of low-commission stock trading companies that offer you the tools you want and need to maximize your investment strategy.

There are many online stock brokers. Some of them offer minimal tools, and some of them offer a full portfolio of tools designed to help you achieve your investing strategy. It is important that you do some homework prior to choosing which online stock trading company you will use.

How do you do your homework? This is an important question that is often overlooked. Too many consumers are swayed by flashy commercials on television or radio. The best place to start doing your homework is actually with Barron's. Barron's does an annual review of the online stock trading companies and provides a star-rating system. You will want to make sure you choose a low commission stock trading company that has at least a 4-star rating.

Once you have narrowed the field down to those companies that have a 4-star rating or higher, you can start examining the tools they offer and the pricing structure. You will want to find a company that offers you the tools you want to execute your trading strategy. If their website does not lay out the available tools you may want to consider that a red flag.

A good online trading company will offer you the ability to take their system for a test spin before opening and funding an account. This is not something offered by all companies but it is something you should look for. You want to make sure you are comfortable with the trading platform and understand its nuances.

If the company offers a virtual platform it also gives you the ability to test out different investment strategies or perhaps create one unique to your needs and desired risk level. If you are using a non-live version of the platform you will not be putting money at risk, yet you can test to see how you may have done. The down-side is that if you did well in the strategy you will not have earned any money since it is a virtual platform, but the important thing is you learned something of value.

If you are looking for low-commission stock trading then start at Barron's review the websites of the 4-star rated companies and then test their systems. If you follow these steps you may find the perfect company for you that offers low-commission stock trading.
