Money Management for college students

Dealing with the finances in college becomes a bit difficult for most of us. The cost of academics and other activities such as room rent, food etc. is high. Also the living style changes which again result in more expenditure.

Students and their family should take the financial issue more seriously. They may emphasize more on money management. Students may try to inculcate the habit of money management through out the college and thereafter. At starting, managing your money may not appear simple but soon you will find handling your finances more conveniently.

Learning the money management skills will certainly help you in life after college. You would be able to deal with the financial issues more effectively and live a debt free life.
Following are the tips which the students may follow at college level:

  • Track your expenses.

  • Make a budget plan and stick to it.

  • Make wise use of your credit cards.

  • Build an emergency fund.

  • Look for a part time job.

  • Ask your friend to share the room/food rent.

  • Do not become a spendthrift.

  • Use student ID card to avail student discount benefits.

  • If there is a financial emergency and you are left with no cash, then don't panic. The simple way is to call your family member and let them know about the financial difficulty.
    Right from the college days you can set your financial goals, make plans for achieving them and implement them in a more effective manner. You may evaluate your financial plans on regular intervals and change them accordingly. This will help you to take rational decisions regarding the financial issues in the long run.Respect your hard earned money and start saving right from college days.
