Finding a good mortgage in the current market

Submitted by bazluhrmann

You may have read in the news today that mortgage lending has fallen again which is a blow for the country as many were hopefully of a recovery in the mortgage market. It may be just a small fluctuation that is common during a recession. It could take several more months before we do see a rise in mortgage approvals with the government introducing quantitative easing which will hopefully helping mortgage lending numbers.

Many consumers are flocking to apply for fixed rate mortgage deals to take advantage of the low base rate which is bringing in competitive rates for homeowners and first time buyers. No one knows when the market will bottom out and the recovery of the mortgage market will kick in. Taking an educated guess is probably the best idea.

Wherever you are based in the country whether it is Fulham or Falkirk I would regularly check the internet, read articles from on line newspapers as well as information from mortgage experts. Many have recently said now is best time to fixed your mortgage as the low base rate brings extra costs to lenders which they will pass on as higher rates for borrowers. You can never really know the best time to fix as when the base rate does increase again it will take several weeks for a mortgage application to be approved.

If you are a first time buyer or looking to remortgage or even interested in what is available to you at the moment my advice would be to go to a professional so they can give you tailored advice for you.

I believe mortgage brokers are hugely beneficial. Finding one that has many years experience in the mortgage market means they will have good contacts with lenders, they understand trends in the market and can help with any queries, questions you may have about your mortgage application.

Ask friends to see if they can recommend a mortgage broker they had a good experience with as a mortgage will be the biggest commitment of your life and therefore a stressful time for you. You want to make sure you have a supportive broker throughout the process. Local mortgage brokers will also be able to offer advice on the local mortgage market so finding one in Falkirk mortgage or Fulham will be of most benefit.
